Memories of Peaches
Its taken me a month to compose this. Losing you has rocked me to the core. It was 23 years ago you started exploring our yard. You would come when your family called you but otherwise you would spend time here. The day came when you were found with a hurt paw. After coming home with you we found your family had moved, leaving you behind. You became our guy, our ginger guy. While you didn't get along with your sister, its not like you didn't try. She simply didn't like you so our yard became your home. You didn't leave the yard much at all. Once older you never left. Peaches, you were my rock, my unconditional support through so many hard times. Your quiet strength, your love saw me through a lot. I will always be grateful for you choosing us as your family. The last 3 years were difficult for you. I didn't want to be anywhere but close to you for your care. I didn't care about what it would take to make you comfortable. The last 8 months were especially hard for you. You were more frail, spending more time indoors. You were a buffer when I lost your sister in 2020. It was after losing her you were OK with coming inside. I knew it was your time. Lying you on a blanket inside, telling you how much I loved you, that it was ok to let go. I cry composing this. I still find myself thinking I need to feed you, give you your medication. You brought me so much joy, so much love. You always will be unforgettable. No matter the years, I will always feel the pain of losing both you and your sister.
