Odin was a shelter dog who never spent any time in the shelter. We got him at 8 weeks old from Heartland Shelter in Northbrook, Il. He was already house broken thanks to his foster family. He was smart but had a short attention span, a scent hound for sure. He had a sweet and friendly nature. Loved people, other dogs just ok and hated cats. Not a fan of dog parks or the water despite his webbed feet. When he was three, we moved from Chicago to North Carolina. Although he didn't care for the hot summers, he became a Tar Heel dog, enjoying hikes and the open spaces. He was Dan's first dog. Dan was his primary walker through all kinds of weather. He was a good traveler, always up for a ride in the car. He went with us on numerous trips back to Chicago and to Florida.|
Odin celebrated his tenth birthday last October. We thought he would be with us for at least a few more years. He seemed to be in good health according to the vets, so we were so shocked at his sudden death two weeks ago. Our only solace is that he did not have a prolonged illness where he suffered. We are sad and heartbroken that he is not with us during this pandemic lockdown. He was such a joyful and loving presence. We have been comforted by the sentiments expressed by many friends and family who knew and loved Odin as well. We have dedicated a new garden in our front yard to Odin's memory.
