Memories of Moonie
Moonie, I got you from a shelter in New Mexico in 1997. I remember the way you nuzzled my fingers right away when I stuck them through the cage. You were kind of scared when I first brought you home, but within a few days you were wrapping yourself around my head and twining your paws in my hair. Sometimes you would stroke my face with your paws, or put your paw in my hand. I was having a hard time then and you were such a great comfort. I brought you with me to my parents' house and we stayed with them for a few months, and my whole family fell in love with you. Everyone who met you thought you were the sweetest and most beautiful cat. You were so sweet and mellow that you accepted another cat into the household a few years later without any fuss, and the two of you became good friends. I remember the way the two of you would lie facing away from each other with your backs touching. Both of you always used to greet me at the door when I came home. Once when I got really sick, I remember how you wouldn't leave my side, like you were trying to protect and comfort me. When I think of home, I still think of you. I am so glad you were a part of my life for 16 years, and I believe I will see you again someday. Rest in peace, sweetheart. I love you.

6-2-2017: I still really miss you, sweet Moonie. I just want you to know I will never forget you.
