Martin "Marty" McNamara, most recently residing in Braintree, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2026, at the estimated age of 15-17. His precise birth date and year are unknown, and his early years remain a mystery. Marty was rescued in 2015 after surviving abuse and abandonment and spending at least some substantial time living on the streets of North Carolina. He was fortunate to receive the creative and patient love he needed from his devoted adoptive mother, Meghan McNamara, for the next 11 years, until his passing. Either due to abuse or an accident during his unhoused time, Marty lived most of his life with one eye. Also, likely due to early abuse, he suffered from severe anxiety, often refusing the company of anyone other than his mom and being especially wary of men. While he loved toys, he never played with them, preferring instead to hide them away. His favorite treats included waffles, chicken, and cheese. He enjoyed car rides to anywhere, short, slow walks, and time spent close to Meghan. His bond with her was so strong that she rarely needed a leash, because he would not voluntarily leave her side. For years, Marty slept in Meghan's bed, directly above her head. Marty was a steady presence in Meghan's life, weathering many life changes and the darkest days of the pandemic. Marty is preceded in death by his beloved dog brother Bodie. He is survived by his human cousins, Matt, Katie, Ellery, and Bryn, his dog cousin, Teddy, and the best dog-mom Meghan and her family, who will always remember him.
