| I rescued Magneto on 11/5/2020. He was already an adult and in awful shape! He had blood and puss coming out of his mouth due to almost all his teeth being abscessed. He was skin and bone, as all the food that was put out for ferals was dry. The condition his mouth was in, he couldn't eat it. He was anemic from fleas and he was intact. I was told he couldn't be caught. That he was too feral and that even animal control could not catch him. He was out there like that for over 6 months! I had him in a carrying kennel in under 30 seconds. He was not feral. He simply didn't trust humans anymore. The people he loved dumped him in my small community. After getting him to the vet, and having those bad teeth removed, which broke coming out, having him neutered, and on antibiotics for a while, I got him healthy again. He was FIV+ though. He had separation anxiety, and would panic anytime he went in the car, because he thought he was being dumped again. I had to constantly reassure him. He didn't like me leaving the area he was in and would cry. He finally realized that I loved him very much and this was his forever home! I used to work in Law Enforcement and it beat up my body. I have numerous injuries and I am in pain all the time. When the pain got bad, Magneto would come running to me and comfort me. Back in March of 2025, I noticed a broken canine on the floor. All he had left were his lower canines. I was praying it wasn't his, but it was. It had broken to the gumline and had to come out. After having those last 2 teeth removed he started going downhill. His eyes slowly turned yellow and his liver was failing. A local vet messed up when I brought him in mid July. That vet never did any bloodwork. If he had, Magneto might still be alive. Magneto's last days, his eyes had turned yellow from jaundice, and he quit eating. He was also urinating himself. He was drinking a ton of water and his kidneys were working overtime to take over what his liver was no longer doing. That same vet said he had liver inflamation and claimed he was diabetic. He gave him insulin when he hadn't had anything to eat in 2 days. He was not diabetic and that vet should not be in practice! All he gave me was antibiotics, which I could not give him because he was not eating. I knew he was not going to survive the weekend, so I took him to a different vet the next day, that one of my doctors referred me to. He told me Magneto was in liver failure and would not survive the weekend. He couldn't even lift his head at that point. I held him and told him how much I loved him, that it wasn't goodbye, it was see you later. I held him until he was gone. He was trying to purr. After he was gone he took a deep breath and exhaled. It seemed like a sigh of relief as he was no longer in pain. The more I thought about it, I thought maybe he thought I did abandon him....Which I would NEVER do! I still cry for him! I miss him so much! He was so special. I will NEVER understand how people can just dump their fur babies like that! Just under 5 years was not long enough! My new vet thought he was probably in his teens. But we really didn't know his age. I had him cremated and he is in his place of honor next to my precious Draco! I miss you Magneto! I will see you again someday to never be separated again! |
