| Today we mourn our loss of our beautiful Macha Rose. (pronounced "MAH'-kuh ROSE). Named for the Irish Goddess of Desire and War, she loved everyone she ever met, and would get upset on walks if we didn't go meet them. She was oh, so stubborn, and we so gave in, because she was just joy in beautiful greyhound dark-brindle coat, "striking" as our vet techs upon first seeing her said. She never lost her beauty and her joy, even after breaking her front leg, getting it amputated, keeping us up all night long with her screams of pain, shock, and dismay, and dealing with two rounds of chemo, both of which she kicked back to the Hell they came from, dying only when her legs gave out from age and wear and tear. Once she got used to 3 legs, she was her amazing happy-go-lucky self, playing with her toys, throwing them up in the air to catch them in her teeth, egging our other, younger greyhound on as he zoomed around our yard, flipping and flopping on the fake grass we put out for her sensitive and so soft skin. Beautiful Macha was beset with scars from her racing days, before we were lucky enough to adopt her from Greyhound Rescue. Oh dear reader, please DO NOT support greyhound racing or hunting, in any shape or form--Macha Rose was full of scars, both physical and mental--on all her legs, only half a tail, and nightmares all the time, even though we loved her and cared for her and gave her all the best we could for the 9 years she was with us. She lived for 11 years and 8 months which my friend, is a long time for a greyhound to live, particularly with all those scars. We found an amazing oncologist and their team in Hope Veterinary Clinic up in Ventura, CA, but every single one said that the scars from racing made it more likely she would come down with osteo. And she is our first, of SEVEN greyhounds lost in the many years we have been so fortunate to love them, to have osteo. She is hand's-down the most with scars, and one of the sweetest, strongest dogs we have ever known. Here is to you, Macha Rose, your spirit is undying and never gave up, no matter what. You kept that goofy smile on your face until the end. You greeted your vet who came to release you from your pain. It was greater than any medicine we could give you, and we hated seeing you not able to get up without pain or whimpers. We love you oh so much, Macha Rose, heart of our hearts, love of our lives. Thank you for all the joy you gave us. Thank you for being a sweet beautiful angel here on this troubled Earth. We love you. Rest now in sweet peace. God's speed to heaven! |
