Memories of Hunter
You'll never stick your head in the shower, and spray water all over the floor.
You'll never be blocking the entry as we push past you through the door.

The hallways are quiet and empty, we can't hear the clicking of your nails.
We don't have to go outside and tell you to stop barking when we get mail.

We've thrown away all the muddy rags we used to clean your toes.
We can leave steaks to rest on the counter with no fear of your wet nose.

"Get out of the kitchen" is a phrase we won't have to tell you again.
Or "Leave it" when a child goes by with food held their hand.

No more whining by the bedside when the storm outside is loud.
No more puddles on the floor when water drips out of your mouth.

The carpet has no wet spots where you licked up all the crumbs.
No more crying from the baby when you bump her to her bum.

The garbage is safe now from you tearing it apart.
Our eyes will water thinking of you and not because your farts.

You made us feel protected when we all went to sleep
and I would gladly accept everything above for just another week.

Wait for us at the Rainbow bridge, where you can play and run,
but until that time watch over us like you have always done...

We love you always Hunter,
