Memories of Babette Bardot Lavarco
Babette was chosen and adopted with her beloved brother, Henri Toulouse. Babette was the little brown one. I first saw Toulouse a big white chested siamese. He was beautiful. I had asked my husband to adopt 2 kittens and then I asked Alice for a girl. Alice was a "legalize marijuana revolutionary" and had run a newspaper called Overthrow".
She held up a very brown very dark point siamese who was Babette. Her eyes were incredible. Her nickname to me became paraiba Sheba. She was tiny and so beautiful. She was happy to be with Toulouse. They were trapped and we went to pick them up. A Chinese lady passed the trap cages and asked are they yours? WSe said yes. She said you are very lucky. We took the kittens home and they made our 17 yr old cat very sick. Geraldine almost dies . It was crazy. She had be hospitalized for almost 2 weeks.
When Geraldine came home she had to do therapy. My husband walked her in a towel from one room to another to her litter box and to her bowl. The kittens loved her and she prefered Babette. Toulouse was too big. She spoiled Babette like a tiny kitten. She'd groom Toulouse but Babette followed Geri everywhere. Too her bed to he resting spots - everywhere. Some of my fondest memories are of Babette crowding poor Geraldine.
Babette was a beautiful cat. She was adored by Geraldine and her brother. After Geraldine passed Babette grew depressed and her brother tried to console her. The sat side by side for hours and often slept together,
She continued to over groom and suffer from depression. She'd pee on a piece of paper, inside my purse under the bed. Amy husband wanted to get rid of her. I even consulted a pet psychic. It was exhausting. We'd do blood work return to vets and her blood work was good. The last year of her life she gained weight, appeared happy and loved being brushed for hours everynite. I never assumed or realized she suffered from acute kidney failure.
I once consulted with a pet psychic who said Babette was profoundly sad. This I believed, We did not give up on her , ever. We stuck with her till then end. She did have 2 accidents on Toulouses bed and on his scratching board. I thought it was her personality not her illness. I always felt terrible.
Her end came when Christopher and I were attending a wedding in Columbus Ohio For my niece. She has not eaten after her chin injection and steroid treatment. I tried force feeding her and we alerted her vet tech, cat sitter Robert. He said she was under bed , not eating. We said take her to the hospital. She was warmed up and had blood tests. They said it's very bad and they didn't have a bed. Robert walked her to Blue Pearl which confirmed their diagnosis and said 7500.00 first night at 4000.00 a night after and she probably would not make it. I said please put her down. which we did. Robert let us speak to her over the phone and he stayed with her. She was put to rest. I feel very bad about what transpired. I can only hope she is with Geraldine and Max her insta boy friend and Percy her husband. She was loved,
