Memories of Alayna
Alayna was a very scared cat at first. I saw her picture on Petfinder and knew I had to save her. Someone had left her on the shelter doorstep taped up in a cardboard box. She smelled like gasoline. She was in foster care for 6 months hiding under the bed. When I first met her, I asked her to come home with me and be my forever kitty. For the first 3 months she hid in her kitty cube. I would sit on the floor and read her poetry. I never tried to touch her. I knew when she was ready, she would let me know. One day she finally came out and head butted my knee. After that we went slow. She was in a small room off the kitchen. In a little while she decided to try coming into the kitchen. Next, the dining room. It took a year, but she was in the whole house. She cuddled with me on the couch. She slept with me every night. I got sick. I broke my ankle and ended up in rehab for a month. She was so happy to see me when I got home! My illness got worse. We moved. Moved again. I went through some really dark times. Everyone I knew walked out on me. Nobody wants you when you need a wheelchair. But, Alayna was always right there, happy to see me. The worst day of my life when I realized I was completely alone with a neurological disease, Alayna was right there. So happy to see me. I had been in the hospital and came home. Everyone had moved out. The apartment was empty except for a couple of things. Alayna came running from the bedroom and leapt into my arms. She purred and purred. I wouldn't have made it through that day if it wasn't for her. The cat I thought I was saving actually saved me. I have never had another cat like her. When I get to heaven all I want is to see her again.
