Memories of Vumilia
On January 13th, in the wee hours in the morning, God called back to heaven a very special little guy, Vumilia, an orphaned gorilla. Only a few years old Vumilia was captured by poachers who intended him for the bush meat trade (yes, he was going to be sold and eaten). Luckily, he and another gorilla, Mapendo (infant female) were rescued by patrols and turned over to the gorilla vets in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The vets worked very hard to tend to the machete wounds and diarrhea he had. They scoured the forest to find forest foods to feed these two traumatized babies. The caretakers never left their side. Through all of his suffering, Vumilia (his name means patience)took care of little, younger Mapendo. The look in their eyes told of the horrors they had both been through, being ripped out of their mothers' protective embraces and seeing family members killed by the poachers. Now with the passing of this gentle little gorilla, I promised him he would not be forgotten, that he was loved by all who cared for him and kept vigil for him. Here Vumilia, you will lie in peace, you will know God's gentle embrace, and no one will ever hurt you again. You will now be little Mapendo's guardian angel, for she looked up to you, you could see it in her eyes! Oh, God, I pray, please put an end to this slaughter of innocents, for soon, without your divine intervention, they will all be gone...Friends at Rainbow Bridge, please go to WILDLIFE DIRECT and click on Blogs, from there you can go to Gorilla Protection where you can see photos of both Vumilia and Mapendo and read their story. Please pray for little Mapendo, for now she has lost her "brother" too. Jan 15th Vumilia, my little baby, we miss you so very much, Andre your caretaker and Mapendo miss you especially...Mapendo is now in a safer place and Andre is with her, she's not alone. God, I wish I'd could have held you, little gorilla hugs to you baby...Jan.19th, Vumilia, I mourn your passing, I'm still in shock, all the wonderful, brave people who tried to save you are very sad. My deepest gratitude to the kind person who posted Vumilia's picture, God bless you...
