Memories of Pinny
Pinny the Puppy was born in Hawaii Kai and arrived in 2010, spending the first years of his life with Watson (2012) and Cosmo (2013). After picking up many of their habits -- both good and bad -- Pinny and family moved back to the mainland, where Pinny became an instant model citizen among an increasing number of friends (canine and human) and his favorite Aunties, Jacqueline and Diana.

In 2015, Pinny the Dog -- now the alpha -- was joined by Gage the whippet puppy. They ran around and chased each other in a way that made both of them look like puppies. Gage and Pinny bonded, and oftentimes I would see them lying together in the yard, on the couch, and on the bed. While I traveled, Pinny and Gage spent time with other Italian Greyhound friends, including Samford, Batlee, Scout and Cassie.

Pinny's breed was unfortunately subject to cancer, due to a combination of genetics and thin fur. He would often bathe in the Hawaii and Mississippi sunshine. It was not until 2019 (age 9) that a growth removal pointed towards Hemangiosarcoma, a deadly condition once it spreads internally. For the next two years, Pinny would go in for growth removals which slowed the progression. It was not until this month (October 2021) that the condition affected him internally. His demise was quick -- we went for (what turned out to be) our last walk on Sunday morning -- three days before Pinny passed. He waited for me to complete a surgery appointment and stayed his last night with us before joining Cosmo and Watson at the Rainbow Bridge.

Named after my oldest Uncle Pinny (1909-1976), Pinny the dog was the smartest in his litter and was a loyal companion. He is missed by his human and canine companions. His departure was very unexpected, however the (visible) suffering was minimal. As was the case with his namesake, Pinny went before his time.

יהי רצון שתוליכך לשלום ותצעידך לשלום ותדריכך לשלום
Pinny -- May it be Your will that you will go in peace, and stride in peace, and be guided in peace...
