Memories of Duke Becera
Duke Becera! Duke was more than just a dog or just a beagle ... he was my child! Duke entered his furever home on November 30, 2010, just a few days after Thanksgiving. And, boy, was I ever thankful. Only wish I had found him sooner. Duke was adopted from the Animal Foundation (Las Vegas) after receiving an email notice, from what was yet to be the Southern Nevada Beagle Rescue Foundation, that Duke was at the shelter and ready for a new home. The process went quickly and smoothly. Duke was about five years old at that time.

Duke was warmly welcomed into his furever home by beagle sister Nala and beagle brother Ziggy and immediately adjusted to beagle house rules ... that beagles rule the house. We like to think that Duke previously had a good home as he was already trained to use a doggie door and knew commands such as sit and shake. A few weeks later we realized he also knew how to roll over. The only new thing he learned was to hug, as I would tap my chest and he would place his paws there. But perhaps my earliest and fondest moment with him was when he would lay his head across my neck whenever I was laying on the floor or bed with him. To me, I felt that was his show of affection and appreciation for his furever home.

Duke eventually became a greater source of peace and comfort to me after Nala passed. And for the last almost two years, Duke was the lone beagle, getting all the attention. He barely left my side when I was home; he followed me everywhere and would lead me to eating/snack time. Duke loved his sister and brother, going to the park, playing in water (not baths), and of course food. I will forever miss his love and companionship, and taking care of him.

Duke was peacefully assisted in crossing the Rainbow Bridge on May 30, 2021, and joins his sister Nala (2019) and brothers Ziggy (2016) and Marley (2010).

I love you, Baby Duke! Until we're together again...
