mists of the past

I sit with my cup of coffee, lingering in the mists of the past; So many have walked beside me But I knew,forever, it would not last. They have all meant so much to me, Each one was a special treat. Some liked to romp and run and play; Others chose to just lay at my feet. I've opened my heart, time after time; Only to have it broken; They looked back at me with adoring eyes; Many times,not a word had to be spoken. With dogs and puppies;cats and kittens; I've told them all "no more will you have to roam. You'll always have a place by my side. Forever,my heart will be your home." They have all shared their love with me. Some, I have covered with tears, Their spirits are still lingering in my house; And in my heart, they'll stay thru out the years. I wanted, one more time, to honor your presence; For no matter how short or long time was for you here; I stare into space but I don't see the walls--- I can picture your face,I remember your names and then; Comes the flood of tears. |
