A VERSE FOR BRUISER

He came to us lost and alone,
Those he loved they cast him away,
Old and sick to them he was a burden,
He was simply in their way.

That day he touched our hearts and souls,
We brought him into our home,
A place once more to share his love,
In a way he'd never known.

It took a while but he came to learn,
He no longer had cause to fear,
He fit right in; he'd joined a family,
Where every day he'd hear,

That he was loved and cherished,
His world it was now brand new,
He need not run he need not hide,
No matter what he'd do.

Sadly though his time was short,
His battle he could not win,
Age and illness they took him from us,
Now we have these words for him.

We know there are dogs in heaven,
We know that you've gone home,
We know you'll run to the gates to greet us,
To share once more the love we've known.

Till then old friend we thank you,
We'll think of you every day,
Forever shall we, be oh so thankful,
God chose to send you our way.
