Memories of Yazhi
To Our Dear Little One Yazhi,

Thank you for all the joy you brought into our lives. You will forever be in our hearts.

Rest in Peace.

Love,
Mommy and Daddy

Dear Yazhi,

A whole day has passed without you and it hasn't gotten any easier. Last night, I missed kissing you goodnight and putting your blanket over your cage. I had all you favorite things for breakfast this morning and I wish I could share them with you.

One of my favorite things was to play peek-a-boo with you right before bedtime. I remember the day we brought you home. Daddy and I picked you out from the pet store, or should I say you picked us out. All the other cockatiels came to the front of the cage and then took off. You remained in the front as if to say, "I belong with you." You were only 5 months old. We didn't have a cage or any toys and the pet storeowner put you in a box and you kept you on the counter until daddy and I got everything you needed. You were so quiet on the car ride home. When we got you home you went right in your new cage and you were such a good girl. The next morning you gave a little chirp as if to say, "I'm up." That night Daddy and I looked under your blanket after we covered your cage, and there you were on your back dish, peeking back at us.

For the first week, you didn't have a name. Daddy and I kept calling you, "little one." That is how you got your name - Yazhi - means little one in Native American.

It took you eight months before you let me hold you, but once you did you never stopped letting me kiss you. You liked when I would pet your head and I loved when you so gently pecked my nose for more.

The pet storeowner was positive you were a boy and so were we since boys usually have bright patches and no stripes on their tails. I was so surprised and delighted when daddy called me at work two years after we brought you home and told me you laid an egg!

Over the last 13 years we have had the best of times with you.

A special thank you to "Aunt" Gena and "Uncle" Chris, our neighbors, for providing you a beautiful final resting place. Their backyard is so tranquil and beautiful. I know you will be peaceful there. You are only two doors away from Mommy and Daddy. We are always near by and thinking of you.

We love you and miss you very much.

Love,
Mommy and Daddy
