Rocky's Rainbow Residency

Memories of Rocky

11/28/09 - Rocky...you will always be remembered by everyone as friendly and laid-back with the best temperament ever known in a dog. We also remember you as irrepressible with a love for your balls (which you would always like to bring downstairs to play with), your nylabones and your back yard. Especially your back yard. You left us on a beautiful Autumn day, the kind of day that was your very favorite. Later in the day we took your sisters and brother for a walk on the path you knew so well, and we thought about how you would walk in the grass alongside the path and scamper back when given the signal to move along. And when we arrived home we thought about our Rocket Man launching himself into orbit to investigate the entire perimeter of his back yard. You could orbit several times in a day and still find something new and interesting. You invented a game called GIVE ME THAT!!!, and you could play that game for hours. We so sorely miss hearing your authoritative "wap" demanding attention and playtime. We also miss seeing you lying in front of the fire in your "goalie crease" made out of a blanket. Rocky, we simply can't describe how much we miss you, and sometimes the pain seems unbearable. But we knew you were not going to recover and that you were suffering. Through it all you still managed to wag your tail when we approached you. You even wagged your tail at the very end. You could not lift your head, but you could wag your tail. You were our Lion King, and you were certainly lionhearted when battling your illness. Peaches has been sleeping in your bed, and Cubbie and Murphy miss you as well. And Blackhawk, Annie, Daisy and Sugar Bear have no doubt found you by now and are keeping you warm. The Star was brighter than ever on your first night at Rainbow Bridge, and we will watch for you again. Sweet dreams, our dear Rocky. 11/28/10 One year....one very, very long year since we last held you. One very, very long year since we played GIVE ME THAT!! We posted a video of you playing that game on YouTube so that the whole world can see how much fun you were. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HI51l2C8k1Y You were also the utmost friendliest soul. We joked that if someone broke into our house, you would just wag your tail and offer to show him where the refrigerator is. We miss you so very terribly, Rocket Man. Cubbie has assumed the orbit responsibilities, so you can be assured all is well in the backyard. Peaches is with you now, and we know you were happy to see her. She may have snapped a few times, but near the end she lay down close to you, and we could see the grief in her face when she slept in your bed after you were gone. We took Cubbie for a walk today. You would have loved the day, it was your favorite...cool, sunny, perfect walking weather. Take care, sweet, dear Rocky. We'll see you in our dreams. 11/28/11 Rocket Man, we both agree it seems like you left a hole in our lives and our hearts much more than two years ago. That might be because you were a huge part of our lives every day. Murphy has joined you now and she no doubt feels safe knowing you are there. You two were our only miniatures. Cubbie has really mastered the orbit, and you would be proud of him. We'll be lighting the grill in your honor tonight, Lion King. Love you bunches and bunches. :)

Please also visit Annie, Blackhawk, Daisy, Murphy, Peaches and Sugar Bear.
