Memories of Liverpool
|
A Farewell To Liverpool: July 1996 - July 7, 2011 Livy was reunited with her best friend and playmate, Bovingdon and the brother she never knew, Paddington, early afternoon today. At a full fifteen years old she outlived and outplayed all of our expectations - living as fully as possible right up to her last minutes here on this earth. Daily basics were just getting too difficult for her and it became clear that her best days were behind her. Deciding that she deserved a rest now Tony and I, with tear filled eyes, loved her up these past few days as we prepared for this afternoon. As we enjoyed our final walk together this morning we returned home to be greeted by two playful neighbor dogs who have never visited before today. The three of them hung out for the better part of an hour with Livy fully enjoying time with some canine friends. For certain this was the doing of St. Francis, the patron saint of beloved animals proving that divine grace and purpose exist even for our furry friends. Livy wore on her collar proudly the St. Francis medallion -gifted by Jenna awhile ago. I'm certain too that my prayers to St. Francis to bring Livy home safely from her two recent walkabouts was heard and answered. The addition of Livy to our family came in early fall of 1996 when Bovingdon, still grieving the loss of Paddington, needed a friend, So I grabbed Troy, Erik and Jenna and told them we were going out to pick up a surprise for the family. Troy's excitement and thoughts of "are we picking up a new car" soon faded to a disappointment when he saw that instead of a shiny new car to enjoy we now had an rambunctious, wildy active cocker terrier puppy who grew to love to jump fences, nip at bikers and walkers, run circles in the backyard, pull us on our walks and just play ever so hardy. Never to have puppies of her own Livy's maternal instinct kicked in when she was introduced to the two new pet mice and later Kensington our very young feral kitty. Livy loved to roll up rugs and blankets to make a soft pillow for her head, loved bacon and corn chips, loved to romp with Bovingdon just as the family was sitting down to relax and watch TV, RUN more than we could ever keep up and of course, her the memory of her would not be complete if we didn't include the invariable licking of guests feet! How she loved it and our guests hated it. Liverpool, you are already missed deeply by each of us that you gave so much too. You were always considered a handful as far as pets go but sweety, we wouldn't have had it any other way. With all our love, Mom, your new dad Tony, Troy, Erik, Jenna and Grandpa. We think of you now playing hardy in canine heaven. Run free and swift baby!!!!!!! We love you Sweetheart. |
