Welcome to Ethie's Rainbow Residency

Ethie's Rainbow Residency

Memories of Ethie

Ethie was one of 4 kittens to enter this world on the night of September 28/29 1991. His mother Tai was an extraordinary mother and companion. Ethie and his brother Mo have been with me for the past 17 years, I was there the night they were born and Ethie slept in my arms almost every night of these past 17 years. They have completed my life and given me so much joy that at times I was speechless to how that is even possible. A few weeks ago Ethie started losing a lot of his weight and after going from doctor to doctor they finally found he had a tumor on his leg that later on turned out to be aggressive cancer.
Ethie had a tremendous will to live and he was so incredibly sweet. Every moment we got he would sit on my lap, lean on my shoulder or push his beautiful little head against mine. I have never encountered so much love and compassion by another being. When he got sick I swear he spent more time comforting me and pretending he's not that sick than tending to his own needs. He and his brother Mo were inseparable, always cuddling and playing together and of course the occasional argument which never lasted long. They shared their food and bed and their love with me. Mo who is as devastated as I am has never spent a day apart from his brother and is still trying to find his little brother which breaks my heart even more.
On 11/18/2008 at around 6:30 am Ethie suffered a stroke taking away all feeling and motor functioning from his entire lower body. I had to make the toughest decision of my life and asked the doctor at the ER to end his suffering. He passed away peacefully at 8:15am with me holding him and thanking him for the greatest gift anyone has ever given me.
Rest in Peace my sweet loving Ethie. I will cherish your love, wisdom, friendship and companionship for all eternity.

11/23/2008:
I want to thank all of you that signed the guest book or sent me a note. It is certainly helpful to know that there are other people that can understand the love we can feel for our little companions and how much we miss them.
