Memories of BOATS

Its been 8 months since I lost my best friend in the whole world and I still have a hard time with losing you Boats, I miss you every breathing moment of my life. It was a cold Jan day when I went to see you at your Mommys house, and I remember picking up a baby Chessie and saying your cute, would you like to go home with me? As I was walking out the door I felt a tug on my pant leg and looked down at the most beautiful red Chesapeake Bay Retriever I'd ever laid my eyes on, and said where did you come from little guy? I put down ther other Chessie and picked you up and thats when I fell in love with you Boat's. Fate had intervened. I took you home that day, away from everything you knew. I remember the first swim you took by accident when you fell off our boat in the middle of winter, and I couldn't see you and jumped over the side to find you swimming like a fish around the dock, I grabbed hold of you and we swam together back to shore all the while laughing and freezing my tush off. Our first summer together we went swimming and out in the Boston Whaler way too much that I thought your Mommy "My Wife Kate" was going to be jealous of the love Boat's and I had for each other, but she just loved watching you and I head off to work together. Boat's and I had a commom bond of the water. I working around it pretty much 24/7 and his love of me and the water. I'm a diver, and I would take Boat's with me everywhere I worked. I used to laugh everytime I hit the water, and Boat's would sit in the boat or on the dock watching my bubbles hitting the surface and I could hear him as I was desending barking his head off wanting to join me. Vacations were planned around Boat's as I couldn't bare to leave him with family or friends, and I wouldn't even think of putting him in a kennel, or having him fly in a airplanes belly, so off we would go in the car or camping, mostly camping. Boat's, Kate and I went to almost every state together. We even went to Las Vegas and Boat's pretended to be my service dog so I could take him into the casino with me, and it worked! My best friend and I went gambling together! I remember once while we were camping near Devils Tower Wyoming at a KOA and I needed to take a swim to cool off, Boat's stayed with Mom, while I took off. When I was swimming I could hear a dog barking and going down a slide over in the childrens play area, I looked over and saw Boat's! So I got out of the pool and walked over yelling "Boat's come" A man and women there with thier child looked at me like I was nuts, and said why are you calling our dog, when i looked closer it was a Chessie that was the spittin imgae of my Boat's down to the collar. I apoligised profuesly and went back to our camp, then apoligised to my Boat's for having thought he had run off. Later on the same people came by with there Chessie and we all had a good laugh, Then took Boat's and their Chessie swimming together. Boat's and I had almost 13 wonderful years together, and I will treasure my memories of them till the day I die. The day I let Boat's go I had a our vet come to the house, and Boat's and I layed down in the yard together and I held him tightly in my arms as I said how much we loved him, and that I will see him again one day, I'm crying my eyes out as I'm writing this even 8 months later. I buried my Beautiful Chessie Boat's in our backyard in a beautiful box my friends built espiecially for him with all his frisbees, toys and bowl. I visit him everyday with my new Chesapeake pup Zak. Boat's gives me the strength I need to endure our new puppy. Boat's was one of the most friendly dogs I've ever known, all my friends and his too adored him. I miss you Boat's Love your Daddy and Mommy. I Love You Boat's
