Memories of Annie
|
Remembering Annie June 24, 1995 - June 28, 2005 You were 2 years old when you joined our family to be a "sister" and hunting buddy to Girl and a specially trained Bird Dog for "Dad". But, you quickly became a beloved family member, too. You spent 30 days in quarantine as per Hawaii rules and we visited you everyday but you were such a happy go lucky dog that you didn't seem to mind waiting to come to live with us. At first, you were a bit skittish around the house as you were not accustomed to vacuums and cabinet doors opening, since you had lived outdoors in a kennel for your first 2 years. But, soon, with Girl, Pickle and Poki's examples, you became a couch potato and loved to snuggle, too. "Dad" always said you thought you were a lap dog because you loved to sit and get rubs and hugs. You let Girl be the lead, and followed her examples in the field, but you also showed that you had your own special abilities, too. You were excellent at retrieving the birds and bringing them right back to "Dad". You never had any unkind actions to any of us and would wag your tail even if we just looked your way. Singing for treats and when you were excited and happy was your trademark. You would even sing with a tennis ball in your mouth, one of your favorite toys. When Wyatt came along, you were the one we never worried about with him. As he learned how to treat you all with respect, you tolerated his hugging and sitting with you in your bed. Of course, you also came to realize he was a food source and waited while he finished his meals so you could help "clean-up"! When we first learned of your chronic condition, we did all we could to treat it and you managed to live with it for over 4 years with no apparent loss of quality to how you deserved to live your life. When we noticed that you were not yourself, we faced a most difficult decision and the day dawned where we knew you needed our help. Your eyes told us you were ready. It was with very heavy hearts that "Dad" and I took you to your doctor, a trusted man who was very dedicated in his efforts to help you. While "Dad' held you and I looked in your eyes, you gained release very peacefully. We all echo what Wyatt said when he gave you goodbye kisses and hugs: "You're the Best!" We will miss you and hold a special place in our hearts for you always. "Dad", "Mom", Wyatt, Girl, Pickle & Poki June 28, 2006 It has been one year since you left us and we all still miss you every day. We have pictures of you everywhere to look at when we miss you the most. Roxie joined us in December to keep Girl company and she reminds us a lot of you. We always say: "Just like Annie!" I still call your name when I call the boys and girls and Wyatt still asks where you are. But most of all, when we talk about you, we say: "She was a good dog." and I think that says it all. Still missing you and love you always, June 28, 2007 Annie, We still miss you everyday. We are blessed to have had such a good, sweet dog in our lives. Love, "Mom" June 28, 2008 Annie, It has been 3 years today and we still think of you and miss you. You were a good dog! Look out for Tasha, your "neighbor" - she joined you earlier this month. I remember you "talking" with each other! She lived a long, good life and will be missed, too. Love, "Mom" January 27, 2009 January 22, 2010 |
